I'd like to know how the PD expects to enforce anything, when City of Pampa employees don't even follow the law?

This picture was taken Oct. 29 at 8:45 AM in front of Allsup's #81 on HWY 60.

The city employee was not in the process of performing any sort of official business that would warrant parking in a disabled spot. Instead, he was on a coffee run, and this spot was the most convenient one in the lot. While this seems petty compared to some "crimes", it is still a violation.

Anymore, I'm almost afraid to walk through the walmart or hastings parking lot. Why? Because of the person in the chevy blazer racing through at 100mph, trying to grab the front handicap spot, throw up their outdated or borrowed winshield sign, and run into the store.

On a related note, how did the Volunteer Parking Enforcement program turn out?

Zed,

It is unfortunate that the location you are referring to does not meet the requirements by law. In most cases like this, it is not enforceable. It is not a violation for the city vehicle to be parked there it is more and an ethics issue. However, if the Allsups store had the space marked properly it would be enforceable and the city employee would be subject to receive a citation.

As for the Handicap Enforcement Program it is going well. We have had a positive response fromthe public since it was implemented. Most of the citizens are becoming aware of this program and are making an effort to follow the law. The Volunteers have being doing a great job.

I see.. It is unfortunate that the spot is not marked correctly.

That's great news about the parking program! The department has a lot of potential to expand upon such programs, and I'm happy to hear this one is working.

Keep up the good work.
